Directions for prevention (14) Evacuate before flooding
There was heavy rainfall in various parts of the Tohoku Region this summer and extensive flooding occurred. Many no doubt felt their lives were in danger as they experienced levels of rainfall like never before.
Even adults have difficulty walking due to water pressure when they are in knee-deep water. If there is rapid flow, we may trip even in shallow waters and be swept away. When heavy rainfall is predicted, frequently check the latest weather information and evacuate before flooding occurs.
If you become unavoidably immersed in water while moving from one place to another, use an umbrella or walking stick to poke through the water as you move to check for dangers such as ditches or uncovered manholes.
When water gets into rubber boots, it becomes difficult to move. Therefore, prepare sneakers just in case. Also, wear long sleeve shirts and long slacks so as not to be injured by flowing objects.
It is dangerous to evacuate during flooding. Stay away from water, move higher up, and wait for help to arrive.
