Directions for prevention(23)Have multiple flashlights at home

There is a risk of power outage in the event of a disaster. The Hokkaido‐Nansei‐Oki Earthquake, which killed 198 people on Okushirishima Island due to a tsunami and other damage, occurred at 10:17 p.m. on July 12, 1993. Residents left their homes in the darkness and headed for higher ground.

You never know when an earthquake or power outage will occur. It is a good idea to prepare several flashlights and keep them in every place in your home, including the living room, bedrooms, and front door. If the power outage is prolonged and you need to stay at home, you can use two flashlights, one for the room where the family gathers and one for moving around indoors.

If you have a light that automatically turns on in the event of a power outage or a battery-operated touch light near your bed, you will have some light even if the power outage occurs while you are sleeping. Headlamps and neck lights are convenient because they free up both hands to hold the child's hand or carry luggage.

Don't forget to test the lights regularly and stock up on batteries so you don't find that they won't turn on when the time comes to use them.
