Directions for prevention (28) Carry emergency supplies for peace of mind

Natural disasters do not always occur when you are at home, school, or work. A disaster may strike while you are commuting to work or school, or while away from home.

At such times, it is a good idea to carry a small disaster prevention kit in a pouch or other container. It can also be useful if the train stops or your car gets stuck.

Recommended items to bring with you include an LED headlamp so you can use both hands, a portable radio with a speaker so you can share disaster information with people around you, and a mobile battery. Disinfectant wipes and masks are also essential measures against the novel coronavirus.

The Metropolitan Police Department recommends carrying a “disaster preparedness bottle,” a 500-milliliter water bottle filled with emergency supplies.
Write or print emergency contact information on a piece of paper and carry it with you. If the battery dies, you won't be able to see the contacts saved on your smartphone.
