Directions for prevention (36) Immediately evacuate to a sturdy building

The tornado warnings issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency calls for caution against tornadoes and other violent gusts of wind that occur under cumulonimbus clouds. The agency also provides a nowcast of the likelihood of tornadoes, which uses color-coded risk levels, showing areas where tornadoes are likely to occur up to one hour in advance.

Tornadoes are violent swirls of air that cause localized building damage and human casualties. When a warning is issued, please pay attention to the skies. The appearance of dark clouds, blowing wind and the sounds of thunder are signs that cumulonimbus clouds are approaching. Take shelter in a sturdy building.

Another characteristic of tornadoes is their speed. You need to act quickly to ensure your safety.

To avoid panicking in an emergency, it is a good idea to look for buildings you can take refuge in on your way to school or work, or while taking a walk. To avoid danger, check for abandoned buildings and trees that might fall in strong winds.
